If you only got one day in Sighisoara and and you want to see as much as possible, you should definitely try this tour which fits no less than four of Transylvania UNESCO Heritage Sites in one breathless day trip.
The private tour starts in Sighisoara with pick up from your accommodation.
Biertan Fortified Church will be our first stop to discover the strongest fortified church of Transylvania which was the Evangelic Episcopal See for three centuries. The Biertan Church has the largest original polyptych altar in Romania, three defensive lines of surrounding walls and many other fascinating things like the the first multi point locking mechanism ever invented mounted on the door of the sacristy and a Marital Prison, the ultra efficient Medieval procedure for couple theraphy.
Saschiz Fortified Church our next visit was included under Unesco protection in 1999. The dominating gothic cathedral was completed in 1525 and dedicated to Saint Stephen of Hungary. The cathedral is a perfect preserved example of medieval military defensive architecture combined with religious, spiritual utility. Very distinct from the other two churches included in this tour it will fascinate you with its simple yet very effective military deffensive approach.
Viscri Fortified Church is the most famous church of its kind in Transylvania. Located in a bucholic village which fascinated Prince Charles of Great Britain two decades ago, enough to buy a property here, the church is the oldest still standing Fortified Church of Transylvania, one of the best preserved and maybe the most inspiring among them. Visiting it you will understand why.
Medieval Citadel of Sighisoara is the final destination of this tour. Besides being the birthplace of the ferocious medieval ruler Vlad the Impaler who inspired the fictional character of Dracula, Sighisoara has the last continuosly inhabited medieval citadel not only in Transylvania but in whole Europe and also a World Heritage Site since 1993.
All the symbols of this Medieval town, such as: The Clock tower, Church on the Hill, the house where Vlad Tepes was born and all the rest of it will be presented to you from a local authentic perspective as I was fortunate to be born and still live in this town.
To choose Transylvania Unesco Heritage Tour means means to discover and sense alt the four sites, not simply reach and visit them.
