Transylvania 3 Days Tour from Bucharest Itinerary

Widely known as the country of Dracula and vampires thanks to Hollywood and of course Bram Stoker this region of SE Europe, Transylvania, preserves some of richest and most spectacular landscapes along with lots of  Medieval castles, citadels and fortifications.
This 3 days private tour is an attempt to make you feel more than a tourists while discovering the most important sights of Transylvania and most important understanding what you see.

Day 1: Bucharest – Peles – Bran – Brasov
After picking you up from your location in Bucharest we will head to Transylvania. Our first stop will be Peles Castle, the summer residence of the royal family until 1947 it is considered by many one of the most beautiful castle in Europe and also a very popular tourist destination of Romania.
Our second stop will be at Bran Castle widely known as Dracula`s Castle. It is not only incredibly beautiful, with original architecture but also it is considered as the best preserved Medieval Castle of Europe.
We will eventually reach Brasov, an iconic very important historical town where we will have a tour of the historical center, dinner and accommodation.

Day 2: Brasov – Sighisoara – Sibiu
After breakfast in Brasov we will continue  our journey with a first stop at Rupea Fortress, one of the oldest archeological sites in Romania and meanwhile a fascinating dominant fortification.
Our second stop will be in Sighisoara, where I will give you a tour of the last Medieval Citadel of Europe constantly inhabited until today and one of the most picturesque places in Romania. Sighisoara is also the place where Vlad the Impaler was born, the historical figure which inspired Bram Stoker’s fictional character, Count Dracula.
After a delightful lunch in a Saxon Restaurant we will head to Sibiu, the informal capital of Transylvania, “Europe’s 8th most idyllic place to live” according to Forbes, in 2007 Cultural Capital of Europe, considered one of the most romantic cities of the continent.
After a tour of the historical center we will have a special dinner in a traditional restaurant and accommodation.

Day 3 : Sibiu – Curtea de Arges – Bucuresti
After breakfast in Sibiu we will cross the Carpathian Mountains from North to South heading to Bucharest. We will be driving along the scenic views of Olt Valley on DN 7 a former Roman commercial road between Wallachia and Transylvania.
We will stop at Curtea de Arges to visit maybe the most important Orthodox spiritual landmark of Southern part of Romania, Curtea de Arges Monastery. Built over 500 years ago the Cathedral has a unique architecture blending Byzantine and Ottoman styles. Resembling more with a mosque than with an Orthodox cathedral this site is a must see for the ones interested in centuries old religious sites. Last but not least at this Monastery one will be able to venerate the relic of Saint Philothea of Arges, the Protectress of Romania.
We will end the tour at your accommodation in Bucharest. If the time of your tour is between July and October and you have interest for it, the last day transfer to Bucharest can be done on Transfagarasan, the most breath taking drive across the highest section of the Carpathians.
