Day 1 – Arrival in Sibiu
I’ll be at the airport to welcome you upon arrival.
If you’re up for it, we can begin our journey with lunch at a lovely local restaurant—your first taste of Transylvanian cuisine.
Option 1:
After lunch, we can explore the ASTRA Ethnographic Museum, the second-largest open-air museum in the world and the largest in Europe, covering 250 acres. Nestled in the beautiful Dumbrava Forest and bordered by a peaceful lake, it features over 300 traditional homes, wooden churches, watermills, windmills, wine and oil presses, and hydraulic forges. With over 10 kilometers of pathways, this immersive museum offers a fascinating introduction to the country’s cultural heritage.

Option 2:
Sibiu was founded in the 12th century, in 2007, it was named the European Capital of Culture, and in 2014, Forbes ranked its Old Town the 8th most idyllic place to live in Europe.
After lunch, I’ll guide you through Sibiu’s charming historical center.
Optionally, we can also visit the Brukenthal Museum, the oldest art museum in Romania. Founded in 1790 by Baron Samuel von Brukenthal—Habsburg governor of Transylvania—it predates the Louvre in Paris by three years. Inside the elegant palace, you’ll find art galleries featuring around 1,200 works from the major European schools (15th–18th centuries): Flemish-Dutch, German, Austrian, Italian, Spanish, and French. The museum also houses rare books, engravings, coins, and minerals.
In the late afternoon, we’ll drive to Sighișoara, where your accommodation awaits.
Day 2 – Sighișoara & Mălâncrav
After breakfast, we’ll begin with a Medieval Citadel Tour of Sighișoara—one of Europe’s best-preserved small medieval towns. Continuously inhabited to this day, its citadel is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, the real-life inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Count Dracula. (Fun fact: this is also my hometown and where I live!)

Next, we’ll enjoy a traditional lunch and wine tasting in the Saxon village of Mălâncrav. The meal, prepared and served by a local lady, follows Slow Food principles: locally sourced ingredients, traditional recipes, and great attention to detail.
The optional wine tasting features five types of local homemade wine, along with stories about the region’s 2,000-year-old wine culture and production methods—served with a good dose of fun!
After lunch, we’ll visit the fortified Saxon church (dating back to 1350), the only one in Transylvania to fully preserve its original medieval frescoes. The peaceful atmosphere, scenic setting, and unique architecture are part of what made King Charles of Great Britain fall in love with this village—he still returns at least twice a year.
We’ll then stop at the nearby Apafi Manor, a noble residence built in the 15th century by the Hungarian princely Apafi family. Today it belongs to the Mihai Eminescu Trust, supported by King Charles. Rumor has it that Prince William and Kate once spent a quiet holiday here.
Return to Sighișoara for dinner and overnight. The evening is yours to relax, shop for souvenirs, or simply stroll the charming streets.
Day 3 – Bran Castle & Brașov
Total drive: approx. 290 km / 4.5 hours
After breakfast, we head to the iconic Bran Castle, one of the top five most remarkable medieval monuments in Romania. Built in 1382 by the people of Brașov on a rocky hilltop, it was strategically placed to oversee the region.
Though Dracula is fictional, written by Bram Stoker in the 19th century, legend links the story to Vlad the Impaler, ruler of Wallachia. The castle’s dramatic setting, authentic architecture, and preserved interiors—including the room where “Dracula” is said to have slept—make for a truly atmospheric visit. The natural surroundings are stunning, and in 2010, CNN listed Bran Castle among the world’s ten most beautiful castles.
On our way back, we’ll take a short walk through Brașov’s historical center, and, if time permits, visit the Black Church—the largest Gothic cathedral between Vienna and Istanbul.
Dinner and overnight in Sighișoara.
Day 4 – Biertan & Airport Transfer
After breakfast, we’ll transfer you to Sibiu International Airport, with a final stop along the way: Biertan, a charming village in the heart of Transylvania’s wine region and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993.
Biertan’s fortified church is the most impressive in Transylvania—protected by three concentric defensive walls. From 1572 to 1867, it served as the seat of the Lutheran bishops of Transylvania. Inside, you’ll find Eastern Europe’s largest wooden polyptych altar, beautifully restored.
A highlight here is the Marital Prison, a small room where couples seeking divorce were locked up for several days with only one bed, one spoon, and one plate—often leading to reconciliation. Proof that medieval times had their own take on couples therapy!
We’ll arrive at Sibiu Airport in time for your check-in and flight, with wonderful memories to take home
